Elena Garro papers, 1930s-1994 (bulk 1970-1990).

Consists primarily of correspondence of Elena Garro and of her daughter, Helena Paz (1948?- ), a published poet in French and Spanish. Additions to the papers include manuscripts of Garro's writings, both published and unpublished, correspondence, journals, and notebooks. There are typescripts for many short stories, novellas, novels, and plays, such as "Busca mi esquela," "La factura," "Primer amor," TESTIMONIOS SOBRE MARIANA, Y MATARAZO NO LLAMO, and "Parada Empresa," and a few nonfiction articles including another draft of MEMORIAS DE ESPANA 1937 and notes on Russia. There is additional correspondence of Elena Garro with various people, as well as additional correspondence between Elena Garro, Helena Paz Garro, and Octavio Paz. There are also a few journals for sporadic years between 1940 and 1990 and over 80 small notebooks containing notes on Russian, addresses, and miscellaneous notes. A 2001 addition (ca. 1937-1945) includes over 60 letters by Octavio Paz to his wife, Helena Garro, letters received by Paz from mother, and drafts of poems.
